How to write a public service announcement comment

One of the main things I learned from reading the article is that PSA videos are not just supposed to discuss a problem or bring awareness to an issue. These videos are supposed to call some action to be taken. At the end the video has to be encouraging or motivating the audience to do something to fix the problem. I also learned about what makes a PSA video effective and that the videos should always follow the shorter and more effective way. In other words, quality is more important than quantity.

PSA Intent

For my PSA I am going to emphasize on the severity of the problem and actions that could be taken to prevent it. I will mostly be using text and a music background as a visual and audio for my video. The PSA is going to be more on a serious note. The video will start with a rhetorical remark that shows how many people are affected by the problem. Then it will explain the dangers of the problem and why it needs to be stopped.

PSA Video comment

1. PSA: Marijuana Impaired Driving/TV

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22jcBvUx3Sw

2. Anti-Drug Frying Pan Smash PSA - Rachel Leigh Cook

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMwxWHaZUro

The first PSA video used humor to get its intended message across but it still passed on a strong message and achieved its purpose. The second PSA video is one of my personal favorites because it is so simple yet it has so much power and it is such an accurate relativity to the problem and it is presented in a way that everyone could understand.

Capstone Project Statment of Intent

The goal of my project is to bring awareness to the increasing drug abuse in the adolescent community, specifically Marijuana. This is important because it affects a large group of adolescents throughout every high school and it is important to know the long term and short term effects marijuana abuse has on young adults. With a clear understanding of the dangers of marijuana abuse, we can have a chance of decreasing the abuse in our high schools and the adolescent community. My career objective in Neuroscience ties into my goals for this project because the effect of marijuana on the brain falls directly under neuroscience. This project will give back to society by decreasing marijuana abuse by young adults thus eliminating the negative impact that it has on a personal and societal level.

Theme

For my yearbook cover I explored the the theme of diversity by using different picture and fonts. My specific theme was Diversity is strength. I used a picture of people with different flags embedded in the picture to show the different places and different backgrounds people come from. I also inserted pictures of the flag in the School name and School year to exemplify the diverse community of out high school during the school year.

Capstone Outline

Drug abuse is becoming a widespread problem within the adolescent's community. The amount of adolescents who abuse drugs like marijuana grow exponentially as the view and opinions towards recreational drugs mitigates. The authors of the journal “Surveying teens in school to assess the prevalence of problematic drug use" explain that more than one third of the students that participated in the study had problematic use.
"The support for legalizing marijuana has tripled since 1898 from 16 to 54 percent"(Sanders). The authors of the journal article "Marijuana use and depression among adults: Testing for casual association" found that "the odds of depression among the non-using comparison users are 1.4 times higher. Against all research showing the potential dangers of marijuana, people still believe that it is a safe drug. Laura Sanders states in an article that 1 in 10 of marijuana users get addicted to the drug.
Marijuana is also known to hinge brain development. Different studies have proven that cannabis might contribute to acquiring psychosis such as schizophrenia. The authors are specifically examining the brain chemical changes caused by marijuana or cannabis that might lead to chemical imbalance and thus psychosis.
All these studies and researches conclude that marijuana affects the lives of adolescent’s significantly long term and short term. From all the research I have done, it is safe to say that marijuana use during young age will be problematic at later age and presently. This issue needs to be addressed as it will affect the productivity of the generation and will also set the path for coming generations.

Yearbook Cover

Typography

The word I chose for the Typography assignment is Fatality. In order to describe this word i used a background image and different designs. I used a background of a burning fire to exemplify the destructive aspect of the word. I chose to use the specific background because like the word, The picture shows a fire burning with a completely black background. I think this links with the word that i chose to do.
